Is UV coating effective?

Is UV coating effective?

Shreya

Yes it is effective, but UV cured powders are not readily available in India. UV is successful on flat jobs only and not on jobs like tables, chairs or automotive components or frames because of the distance between the UV source light and the job has to remain same. Then only will the curing happen. There cannot be any shadow areas where the UV light is not reaching, the curing will not happen then. Otherwise it is effective. We use UV coating for the jobs which we cannot heat i.e. on plastics or wood.

What is the mixing ratio of virgin powder to used powder?

Ecafez

80:20 with the virgin being 80% and used/recycled powder being 20% in case of glossy, structured texture

Shreya

Usually it is 80:20 with the virgin being 80% and used/recycled powder being 20% in case of glossy, structured texture. But in certain cases like matt black or satin black we can go up to 30% for recycled/used powder because there is hardly any gloss difference seen.

Is de-rusting process required for online process where there are no chances of rust in parts?

Bandana

No, in fact you should avoid that. There you can go for offline de-rusting if few of your parts are having problems. These chemicals are available with chemical suppliers.

We do not have blasting or power tools. We are using 3 in 1 chemical. Is it okay to use 3 in 1 chemical before priming?

Bandana

In case of high-end corrosion resistance only the cross hatch test is not applicable, we have to do one more test which is the adhesion pull-off test, where we check the hydraulic force. The 3 in 1 will not give the right pull-off test.

Is there any method to reduce the MIG weld bead or it is operator skill?

Shreya

Do you mean to improve the weld bead? It depends on lack of skill and knowledge of welders & welding procedure setting (management skill & knowledge). Train them for a shorter period of time (2/3 days).

Does arc length vary with the thickness of substrate or mechanical properties?

Apurva

Yes it varies in any Manual Welding that’s why the range. Quality of welding effects on the Arc Length hence the mechanical properties. Arc Length is one of the four essentials in Arc welding which needs a great amount of skill to perform.

Most of the processes are defined by the OEM Customers, in such cases, customers normally do not allow change in the processes, and how can one address such problems?

Atif

Here it is not about changing the process, it is about improving the operations. The wrong operations must be identified and rectified. The OEM can also be involved as a member of the team if required.

What is the difference between continuous and continual improvement?

Atif

Continuous improvement is like a steady slope of improvement while continual improvement is like a step by step improvement programme, which moves on after one stage of improvement has been stabilised.

What should be the weld time for MIG welding and spot welding?

What should be the weld time for MIG welding and spot welding?

Shreya

There are three possible answers: 1) GMAW process is used for a Fusion Joint where as Spot Welding is a Non Fusion joint. Hence, time of welding cannot be compared 2) Time depends up on Type and Nature of Joints. Whereas GMAW process is usually applied on plates, Spot Welding is restricted for thin sheets. 3) If GMAW process is applied on thin sheets, in that case, time required shall be more than Spot Welding for a specified length. It also depends on no. of spots to be welded for that particular length. In both the cases, the joints have to be Lap Joint. Practically, all the data are required and mode of metal transfer in GMAW process is required to be known to calculate the welding time. Thank you for giving us a chance to serve you.

Is visual inspection sufficient for welding upto 3mm thickness?

Shreya

When it comes to porosity, the American Welding Society dictates that the sum of the diameters of visible porosity should not exceed 3/8 inches, or 9.5 mm, in any linear inch of the weld, or exceed 3.4 inches or 19 mm, in any 12 inch length of a weld.
